Massage

Massage therapy
Massage therapy is the manipulation of soft tissues of the body including, muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints. Massage Therapy is a clinically-oriented healthcare option that helps alleviate the discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions.

There are different types and styles of massage, these are used depending on the therapist’s training and the client’s needs.

Some massage therapies are available as part of the Complementary Therapy Clinic. See also Massage, Reiki,  and Reflexology
Massage – Deep Tissue
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.
Some of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain in order to reach the sub-layer of muscles and the fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles).
A typical session focuses on identifying and helping to release areas of chronic muscle tension.
Massage – Holistic
Holistic massage draws techniques from many traditions, combining them with natural sensitivity to meet the needs of each individual as a whole.
Physically, this can relax tight muscles and improve circulation, nervous function and joint mobility. This increases the body’s fluidity and can ease many short and long term ailments such as back pain, arthritis and insomnia. Emotionally, massage can relieve stress and anxiety amongst other emotional difficulties.

Holistic massage is a deeply relaxing therapeutic treatment to help you unwind and de-stress both physically and emotionally. A typical session of an hour consists of a full body massage using oils and gentle rhythmic flowing strokes to aid relaxation and help reduce stress.
