Visit My Mosque Day

20/2/2018

Sunday 18th February marked Visit My Mosque Day. With this in mind I made a trip to my local mosque – Muslim Welfare House. As I entered I received a very warm welcome and took the chance to share a cup of tea along with the other people there and find out more about the initiative and the mosque's activities.

This annual initiative is led by The Muslim Council of Britain, under the title of #VisitMyMosque, and sees mosques over the whole country opening it’s doors to the wider local community - inviting everyone to come together to enjoy exhibitions, films and a tour of the mosque - as well as henna and Arabic calligraphy.

The day was full in the spirit of friendship and conversation and gave members of the local community an engaging insight into the life of the mosque; this goes along way to help to promote greater understanding of Islam and to build bridges between faiths and communities. As a local resident myself, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this special day also marked 32 years of dedicated service to the community.

Muslim Welfare House works in partnership with The Stress project to provide a range of health and well-being activities to its community. These include Mindfulness courses for Women and Men’s Health events. These activities are based at Muslim Welfare House and are specifically available to the Muslim community.

Please visit www.mwht.org.uk for more information on upcoming community events.

We're delighted to announce that during the month of February, the Stress Project is going to benefit from Waitrose's Community Matters scheme.

What does this mean?

Well, the more tokens we get the bigger the donation we receive.  How do we get tokens? At the end of any shop in Waitrose on Holloway Road, you'll receive a token to place in a box of the good cause you'd most like to support. The more tokens we get, the bigger the donation we'll receive. Thanks Waitrose!
